Junior Club Champion 2008

Fraser Grant

The Junior Championship was won today by Fraser Grant when he overcame Conor Lynch at the 29th hole after a exciting match held in the best of sporting conditions between to fine young golfers.
Conor started well and was 2 up after nine holes before Fraser managed to hole a few putts and reverse the score reaching the 18th 2 up. Conor was round in 75 while Fraser's score was 74 which was excellent scoring by both boys playing off the White Angle Irons on the full course which was in excellent condition paying its full length.
The afternoon session got underway with Conor winning the first hole to get the score back to 1 down but that was his only success as Fraser took full control of the match and holing a good putt on the 11th green to take the title for the first time. This equaled his older brother John's record but Fraser still has next year to win again.
Conor was a credit to his family with his performance and sportsmanship and if the overall improvement in his game this year can be carried on into next season Fraser will have a struggle to retain the title.
The Juniors would all like to say thank you to Vice Captain Ian Gordon for his support at all the Newton Shield matches this season and for his performance today while refereeing the Junior Championship where after weeks of poor refereeing performances in the Press Ian never put a foot wrong and was appreciated by both Fraser, Connor and all the supporters which in today's climate was exceptional.
Congratulations to all our Junior Boys who entered the Competition this year and especially our Junior Captain Fraser Grant ,Ralston Junior Champion.
